A Clear Day

A Clear Day

This was the first sunny day after Hurricane Erin passed the Island.  If you compare this painting with "The Calling Tide", you can see the difference in the beach.  I had begun this painting before the storm, but when I went back into it, I had to change the configuration of the shore.  The tremendous surf that came with the hurricane reshaped the sand, flattening the beach.  After a few weeks, the sandy shelf and drop off began to return to the way it had been before the storm.  But on this day, storms were the furthest thing from anyone's mind.  Perfect sunshine, and clear sky, soft sand and gentle surf.  Idyllic!
